North Bengal Archeology Tour: 5 Days of Ancient History (Bogura & Rajshahi)

We welcome you at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with a warm smile and transfer you to your comfortable hotel. Spend the day resting and recovering from your journey, acclimatizing to the local weather. In the evening, enjoy a brief orientation with your guide about the rich history and archaeological wonders you are about to witness over the coming days.

We travel to Bogura, the historic gateway to the north. Diamond guests will enjoy a swift flight to Saidpur followed by a scenic SUV transfer, while others will experience the changing landscapes of rural Bangladesh by road. Upon arrival, we step into Mahasthangarh, the ancient fortified city of Pundranagar dating back to the 3rd century BC. We will explore the Archaeological Museum to see recovered artifacts, walk the ancient citadel walls overlooking the Karatoya River, and visit the sacred Govinda Bhita mound and Gokul Medh (Behula’s Nuptial Chamber), delving deep into the roots of Bengal's earliest civilization.

Today is the highlight of our expedition: Somapura Mahavihara in Paharpur. This UNESCO World Heritage site was once the largest Buddhist monastery south of the Himalayas and a renowned center of learning. Marvel at its sheer scale, the unique cruciform architecture, and the thousands of intricate clay plaques depicting daily life from a millennium ago. Later, we drive to the green, educational city of Rajshahi, located on the banks of the mighty Padma River, where we will settle in for the night.

We visit Puthia, a charming village filled with the largest number of historical temples in Bangladesh. The estate hosts a cluster of monuments, including the majestic Shiva Temple and the Govinda Temple, where the intricate terracotta designs tell mythological stories in stunning detail. In the afternoon, we engage with the living heritage of the region by visiting a local Silk Factory. Here, you will witness the entire process of how the famous, luxurious Rajshahi Silk is produced, from silkworm cocoons to the final woven fabric.

Enjoy a refreshing morning walk by the banks of the Padma River, watching the local boats drift by. We then begin our return journey to Dhaka (Diamond/Gold guests fly from Rajshahi; Silver guests travel by premium coach). Upon arrival, we drop you off at your hotel in Dhaka to conclude your trip.
